Morningside Park Ward Relief Society
1 lb. stewing meat cut into small pieces
4-5 carrots
4-5 potatoes
4 sticks celery
1 medium onion
salt to taste
1/2 cup lentils
1 #303 can tomatoes (I use a quart of home bottled tomatoes)
1/2 tsp. garlic salt
dash parsley
1/4 tsp. thyme
1 can consommé
Cut--meat in small pieces and brown
Chop--or cut all vegetables in small pieces
Add--celery, onion and seasonings to meat
Cover--with 6 cups water and the Consommé
Simmer--1 1/2 hours then
Add--lentils, carrots, potatoes, tomatoes and continue to simmer for 1 hour or until meat and veggies are done
Serves 8
I often leave out potatoes and lentils and add things from the garden like: corn, green beans, shredded cabbage, zucchini, yellow squash. Also good with a leek.
